AN author from North Yorkshire will tell a writing festival of how she found inspiration for her latest book while travelling on a train.
Julia Crouch became the UK’s first writer-in-residence on a train, and wrote her latest murder mystery eBook during a return journey from London to Harrogate.
The author worked with East Coast Rail and the 10th Theakstons Old Peculier Crime Writing Festival, to set up the experience which inspired Strangeness On A Train, already available in eBook. Julia said she jumped at the chance to become writer in residence with the train company.
She said: “There’s something wonderful about writing on trains.
“I can immerse myself fully in my work in a way that comes to me rarely at home.
“I am a bubble of concentration, moving through time and space, my only distractions eavesdropping on the dramas of my fellow travellers and the swathes of country flashing past the window.
“Some of it is inspired by things I saw and heard on the journey, other parts by the effect a train carriage has on the twisted mind of a crime writer.”
Julia, whose second novel Every Vow You Break is released on August 2, will appear at this year’s festival on Sunday, July 21.
The festival, to be held at The Old Swan, between July 19 and 22, will feature writers including Ian Rankin, Harlan Coben, John Connolly and Kate Mosse.
