CHARITIES in Yorkshire and Humber are predicting a gloomy future after losing funding at the same time as having more demand for their services.
A survey by Involve Yorkshire & Humber, the region’s charity support organisation, found 82 per cent of organisations thought the economic situation for charities would deteriorate over the next year and 46 per cent thought their own financial position would get worse.
Meanwhile, 71 per cent of charities reported an increase in demand and 30 per cent worked with more clients over the last six months.
Local authorities in Yorkshire have had greater reductions in Government funding than other areas, Involve said.
Judy Robinson from Involve said: “Charities in Yorkshire and Humber are fantastic at doing great things on a shoestring, but they are really stretched. And cuts to charities impact on vulnerable people first but then on everybody as homelessness rises, older people get poorly and young people lose youth clubs that support them.”
