YOUNGSTERS from Little St Mary’s Pre-school at Askham Richard have savoured the spirit of the Olympic Games.
City of York Athletics Club throwing coach Paul Wilson and top junior shot putter Scott Lincoln staged a mini-Olympics for the pupils as part of the school’s healthy living work.
The plan was to hold the event outside at Huntington Stadium, but bad weather forced the children indoors.
Teenager Lincoln, with a string of under-20s titles to his name this year, demonstrated the art of throwing a shot put and the children copied using bean bags.
Wilson and Lincoln also demonstrated various physical exercises, including throwing, hopping, jumping and stretching.
Pupils wore Olympic T-shirts and were presented with medals for taking part in the games.
Meanwhile, Lincoln has missed out on a place at the World Junior Championships.
The 18-year-old was bidding for a place in the Great Britain squad for the competition in Barcelona next month, but has failed to reach the qualifying mark of 19 metres.
In a last ditch bid to qualify, Lincoln took part in the Aviva 2012 Olympic Trials in Birmingham and an impressive fourth place finish was not enough to book his place.
Lincoln is now aiming for the 2013 European Under-23 Championships.
