OVER recent months we’ve been treated to some stirring and spectacular sights in the skies over York. Did anyone out there take a photo of the nine aircraft manoeuvring for several minutes above the city centre just after 3.30pm on Monday afternoon, June 25?
The formation of F16 Fighting Falcon jets was louder, faster and meaner than the Red Arrows’ Hawk aircraft.
I wondered if they were USAF’s Thunderbirds aerobatics team and, if so, what were they doing over this city – apart from the obvious?
Try as I have, I can’t make the link with York’s 800th anniversary of its charter, no matter how convoluted my thinking.
We need to be told.
Derek Reed, Middlethorpe Drive, York.
