KIND, friendly and thoughtful organisations in York have been nominated for the Community Pride Service With A Smile award.
Among the organisations to be nominated for their outstanding service is charity York Against Cancer, supermarket Morrisons, hair salon Off The Square Hair Design and engravers Cameo Engraving.
Nominating York Against Cancer, Betty Harrall, of Huntington, said: “They do a great service for people like my husband Peter who need transport to St James’ Hospital for treatment. Wendy and Jan, the drivers, make it just like a day out for the patients and are so helpful and kind. When you ring the office nothing is too much trouble for them and they put your mind at ease in such a stressful time.”
Nominating Morrisons in Foss Island Road, Barbara Pettitt, of Navigation Road, said all the staff go out of their way to make her feel looked after.
She said: “My husband John and I are disabled and both in our seventies and we often get a taxi to Morrisons. Everyone there is so helpful. In general the service from everyone is brilliant and they are all so kind. You feel so grateful there is so much kindness in the world and it makes you feel special.”
Hairdressers Off The Square Hair Design, in Compton Street, have been put forward by a customer for their friendly and welcoming service.
Mrs Spike said: “The care this salon offers is not discriminate. The very young are entertained and patiently managed. The very old are made comfortable and shown the greatest of respect.
“Those of us in the middle – no matter what our prefered style – are treated sensitively, whether we are in a rush or would like to linger for a chat. This is a gem of a local business and their service with a smile should be an example to us all.”
Meanwhile, Alan King nominated Cameo Engraving, in Holgate Road, saying its staff always go the extra mile to help.
He said: “Nothing is too much trouble. Staff are very friendly and make you feel welcome at all times, it’s a first class service.”
The Community Pride Awards, which will have a York 800 theme this year, are sponsored by Benenden Healthcare and run in partnership with City of York Council.
