SELBY picked up their first win of the York & District Junior Cricket Association Quality Solicitors Burn & Company Under-11s (Hardball) League season.
The hosts edged out previously unbeaten Sheriff Hutton Bridge by three runs in the division one clash.
Tom Nicholson was their man of the match with 19 not out and 2-9, and he was backed by economical bowling from D Toon (2-2), S Edwards (1-3) and Z Buttle (1-7), who ensured nine of the 20 overs went for only 21 runs for the loss of six of the eight wickets to go down.
Isaac Giannini made 20 not out and Edward Ramsden nine not out.
The leading four bowlers for Bridge went for 23 in nine overs for seven wickets, with Giannini finishing with 3-4, Jack Clark 2-12, Patrick Livings 1-1 and George Stephens 1-6.
Division two looks like being a three-horse race for the title between Pocklington, Woodhouse Grange and Heworth.
Pocklington got points under their belt as Heworth and Grange suffered with the weather, but now the two rivals are starting to catch up.
Woodhouse Grange did their cause some good by beating Pocklington.
Of the batsmen, Chris Wood made 19 and Matthew Ainley 23, with Dan Robertson taking 2-6 and Luke Race 2-5. Pocklington’s Matthew Mabbett took 2-14.
Grange also beat Stamford Bridge, with Ainley (19), Wood (11) and Tom Burdett (11) in the runs.
Wood also took 1-1 and, with Harry Mathews taking 1-2, Dan Robertson 1-9 and Jonty Goddard 1-2, they were able to restrict the Bridge batsmen.
Bridge’s L Easton took 2-15 and M McFarlane 1-5.
Heworth had a big win over Dunnington ‘B’ thanks to runs from Josh Bell, who top-scored with 20 not out, and Ollie Batt, with 14.
The damage with the ball was done by Jack Wilkinson and Ethan Bradshaw, who both had figures of 2-0, Bell (2-11), Zac Moorcroft (2-9) and A Bell (2-8).
Heworth’s unbeaten run continued at home against Yapham as they won by six runs in a close game.
Paddy Mulvey hit ten not out and had figures of 2-2, back by regular wicket-takers Moorcroft (2-18) and Ojev Pandy (1-7).
Yapham’s Robert Boddy made 14 not out, Oliver Robinson hit 11 and took 2-16, while there was a wicket apiece for Jamie Creasser, Sammi Minion and Hebe Quinney.
Acomb ‘B’s bowlers were in fine form at Dunnington ‘B’.
Sam Wallis (3-4), Jamie Thornton (3-10) and Shaun Hilby (2-2) made batting difficult for the home team, whose top scorer was Will Turner with 11 not out.
Wallis also starred with the bat with 13 to his name to see his team home, but not before Giles Longstaff had chipped in with figures of 2-7.
