AN alternative to the church pew has been tested out by the Archbishop of York, Dr John Sentamu.
Design graduate Sarah Crawley, from York St John University, is behind the church chair, which will be showcased at New Designers in London, the UK’s most important graduate exhibition, between July 4 and 7.
As part of her final module, Sarah designed and built the chair to be sympathetic towards historic interiors, ergonomic to ensure comfort for the user and creatively using three legs to connect with the Holy Trinity.
Dr Sentamu, who is the chancellor of the university, was very impressed with Sarah’s design.
He said: “I wish Sarah every success both at the New Designers exhibition and beyond.
“Who knows, she may even become the next Mouseman.”
