Photographer Kate Mallender is getting ready to cover her 21st consecutive Great Yorkshire Show as England’s biggest agricultural event gets under way next week.
As the official photographer for show organisers, the Yorkshire Agricultural Society, Kate will spend three days covering every aspect of the event, which is expected to attract over 130,000 visitors.
Kate reckons that she has taken more than 15,000 photos and covered more than 700 miles over the last 20 years walking and running back and forth across the 250-acre site.
Kate of Stamford Bridge, near York, began her long association with the show in 1992 after being commissioned by the Farmers Weekly magazine to supply photos of the winners of the various cattle, sheep and pig competitions.
Kate says: “I remember being quite daunted by the sheer numbers of people and the scale of the show, not to mention the challenge of photographing animals ranging from champion bulls to pigs and sheep that weren’t all that keen on standing still.
“Aside from taking photos of the wonderful animals and their owners, one of my favourite events has to be the fashion show. It’s not something that you would necessarily associate with an agricultural event, but it really is a must-see part of a day at the show.”
The Great Yorkshire Show runs from Tuesday, July 10, to Thursday, July 12 ,at the showground at Harrogate. Information and tickets available at greatyorkshireshow.co.uk
