Councillor Dave Merrett, along with Paul Hepworth, has been trying for years to get York back as a cycle city.
After his explanation of the fiasco at the Holgate Road traffic light system (The Press, June 26), it’s time they realised that you can’t turn back the clock.
Cycling is a thing of the past, that’s why there are so few about.
It’s like asking housewives to give up their washing machines and return to the peggy tub and presser, it just isn’t going to happen.
We all live in a modern world that’s why we all use modern equipment, that includes all forms of transport, including the car.
If Coun Merrett thinks otherwise, why did the council not purchase a bike for the mayor instead of a £60,000 limo.
Mr E Carter, Marston Crescent, Acomb, York.
