POLICE in East Yorkshire arrested people suspected of drink-driving, assault and drug abuse last month as officers continued their crackdown on crime.

Sergeant Pete Rogers, of the Pocklington and Wolds Weighton Safer Neighbourhood Team, said among those arrested include an 18-year-old man held in the town on June 26 who is suspected of burglary and theft at commercial premises. He is currently on police bail.

On June 20, a local man was arrested for assault following an incident in the town the night before.

A 21-year-old man from Market Weighton and a 23-year-old man from Gate Helmsley were found in possession of controlled drugs in Stamford Bridge on June 16.

The 21-year-old was reported for summons for possession of a controlled drug and the 23-year-old received a formal warning for possession of cannabis.

A 55-year-old man was arrested in Wilberfoss on June 16 and subsequently charged with drink-driving.

Other arrests include a local woman charged with careless driving and a 25-year-old local man arrested for ABH. He remains on police bail.

Sgt Rogers said priorities over the next month would include city centre patrols to deter antisocial behaviour and increased presence at Pocklington Infants’ School, Maxwell Road, following reports of criminal damage.
