A YORKSHIRE Euro-MP has written to English Heritage backing calls for the site of the Battle of Fulford in York to be recognised.
Edward McMillan-Scott, who represents the region in Brussels, wants the scene of the famous 1066 battle to be included on the Register of Historic Battlefields and believes there is a “strong case” that it took place at Germany Beck, which is earmarked for a huge housing development.
English Heritage has begun a consultation on the registration of the site, with the aim of the status being to offer better protection to the scenes of historic battles.
