In response to numerous, and often repetitious letters, I offer my contribution on house building in York.
Messrs Laverack, Jones, Cordock, Reeves and Reynolds (The Press June 29) say that no house building will happen in the York council area because of the affordable housing policy.
Yet Hogg the Builder have announced that they are submitting a planning application for 125 homes in Strensall, including affordable housing, and schemes are being built with 25 per cent affordable housing.
Time will tell how much affordable housing will be included in the Hogg application, but it is clear that the building fraternity do not all think or act in the same way, thank goodness. We never hear from the real volume house builders in York – Persimmon, Shepherd, Taylor-Wimpey and Barratt. Do they support the opinion of Mr Laverack and the like? It would be informative to hear from the people who really do build the majority of homes in York rather than the view expressed by a minority who have built very little, in comparison, open market nor affordable.
Graham Tissiman, Eastfield Avenue, Haxby, York.
