WITH reference to The Press story about a new luxury hotel in St Leonard’s Place and Museum Street, I consider this to be an ill-conceived plan, even though it will generate employment and provide accommodation for tourists.
It is the right kind of building but in the wrong place.
The Regency-type façade lends itself to being one of the city-centre attractions with its historical background.
However, as living quarters, be it short or long-stay, the scene presented to guests from within of never-ending bus queues, traffic gridlock, along with pollution and no space for car parking, has its drawbacks.
The days of the horse and carriage, with frequent events held at the nearby Assembly Rooms has been confined to history, along with easy access.
However, extra office space for firms operating within easy reach of the city centre, rented or otherwise, would extend the council financial coffers and they could build a new hotel on the outskirts of Monks Cross.
