SCHOOL pupils in York get the least amount of Government money spent on them of anywhere in the region.
Funding per state school pupil per year in York stands at £3,710, putting city youngsters at the bottom of the Yorkshire and Humberside league of Government revenue funding allocated in the region.
At the top of the table is Bradford with £4,340. These figures compare with the average revenue funding of £4,130 for state school pupils in England and £4,040 in Yorkshire and Humberside.
The amount spent on pupils in North Yorkshire and the East Riding is only slightly better than in York standing at £3,850 and £3,760 respectively.
The figures released by the GMB union, who represent school support staff also, show how much the Government allocates per pupil to local authorities.
In an address to the Labour Party in September, chancellor Gordon Brown pledged to raise investment in state school pupils bit by bit to match the £8,000 a year currently spent on private school pupils.
