POLICE have launched an investigation after a bogus caller targeted a pensioner in East Yorkshire.

A man called at a house on The Green in Cranswick, near Driffield, between 4pm and 5pm on Wednesday and told the woman, who is in her 80s, that he was from the water board and needed to check her supply. When he was allowed into the house, two other men appeared and spoke about water pressure before checking the downstairs bathroom.

They are believed to have tampered with pipes to cause a leak and create a distraction, and once it was dealt with they left. The woman later discovered the bedrooms had been searched and money was missing.
