THE family of a York woman who has been missing for four years will spend the anniversary of her disappearance in quiet reflection today.
Lisette Dugmore, of Clifton, was last seen on CCTV in York city centre on July 6, 2008.
North Yorkshire Police believe she entered the River Ouse that night, but despite searches and appeals, Lisette has never been found.
Lisette’s sister, Dion Smith, said not knowing what had happened was taking a toll on her parents, Betty, 81, and Frederick, 85, who had rarely left the house since Lisette disappeared.
Dion said: “God forbid mum and dad never find out what happened.
“If people stopped dad in the street and asked him how he was and if he’d heard anything, I don’t know how he’d cope with that. It’s a big thing with him because it’s his youngest daughter. Maybe he tries to avoid going out to avoid talking about it.”
Dion is now verger of St Luke’s Church, Clifton, where she has spent previous anniversaries of her sister’s disappearance. She said: “Lisette will still be in our thoughts. I will have a quiet time in the church on my own at some point. My sister will be at work, and my husband will be at work, but we will all have a quiet time of reflection during the day.
“There’s nothing else we can do. It’s pointless getting down because we’ve still got mum and dad to rally round.
“Dad still gets upset when he talks about it, which is expected, and in a way, I don’t thing they have ever come to terms with it. They still expect her to walk through the front door. When there’s a body found, dad rings me straight away and asks if I’ve heard anything. He’s grabbing every phone call asking ‘hello, who is that?’, hoping it’s Lisette and when it’s not, I think he gets a bit upset. But we just keep on.”
Anyone who may know Lisette’s whereabouts should phone police on 101.
