YET another top golf job has been won by Sandburn Hall Golf Club professional Steve Robinson.

The 50-year-old, already acclaimed as one of the country’s top 25 coaches for his work with a variety of regional and national teams, has been named as the Yorkshire regional coach as England Golf revamp their under-16s boys programme.

Robinson prevailed following an extensive recruitment process to gain a place as part of England Golf director of coaching Nigel Edwards’ team of ten that will deliver the country’s regional coaching programme.

“I’m just another cog in the big wheel,” Robinson, said of his appointment.

“It’s providing 20 days coaching at regional level and it is quite intensive for the kids.

“It gives us an opportunity to make a real difference – the more contact we have with the players the better, for them and us.

“A total of 100 people applied for ten positions. I had to put a presentation together, then I gave a putting lesson, a chipping lesson and a swing lesson in front of the national coach.”

Robinson will now undergo an induction and training weekend in September at England Golf’s headquarters at Woodhall Spa before joining the regional management team to identify a squad for winter training ahead.

“This is a new position for me and I am really pleased to have got it,” Robinson added.

“Hopefully I will be able to produce for Nigel some players who have the skills to perform at international level.”

On the new look line-up, Edwards added: “I’m very pleased with the individuals selected, it was a tough recruitment process and the competition was very strong.

“We have the opportunity to increase our investment in regional coaching and it was imperative that we identified the right coaches to take the programme to the next level.

“Our national squads and England teams will prosper with more players progressing at a younger age.”
