After a long career dedicated to exporting and working in overseas markets, I must congratulate Shepherd’s Purse of Thirsk in getting a premier department store in Zurich to stock two of its products (Cheese firm’s Swiss role, July 4).
You state that Switzerland is noted for its 450 varieties of cheese, particularly the “hard holey varities”. But I say it is Shepherd’s Purse that has the Holy Grail with it’s wonderful Yorkshire Blue. When I was working in the Middle East I was employed by a large construction company which had a cement production factory with a huge plant on the famous Palm Island of Jumeirah, United Arab Emirates.
Strange to report, but the local quality sand (and there was lots of it) just wasn’t up to scratch for cement making and they had to import the vast majority of it. Selling sand to the Arabs is not always so difficult.
Good luck to Shepherd’s Purse, I hope they prosper in Switzerland and spread to other countries.
