I am very angry to see that City of York Council has removed litter bins from Dunnington. The bin on the corner of Church Balk and Eastfield Lane, in particular, was used by cyclists and walkers sitting on the seat and having lunch, etc.
Where will their litter go now? Behind the seat or over the hedge perhaps, which is where it went before the bin arrived.
And where are the bins now? Are they all heaped up, damaged and needing re-painting or have they been binned?
Please, York Council, return our bins. We have great pride in our village and what you have done is a diabolical disgrace.
Dorothy Simey, Church Lane, Dunnington.
• I agree totally with the comments made in The Press by Terry McLaughlin. (Letters, June 30).
Waste bins have been removed on a totally random basis and the imposition of a blanket 20-mph speed restriction is a waste of money (unless there is effective policing) as a significant proportion of motorists ignore the existing 30mph limit!
This is the classic gesture politics I have come to expect from Councillor James Alexander – all wind and waffle. Can the Labour Party please find this councillor a safe Parliamentary seat, hopefully miles away from York, before he wreaks more havoc on this City.
Neil Raw, Oriel Grove, Clifton Without, York.
