A QUICK glance at the track listings – Cosmic Tides, Moonrise, Beautiful Son – gives a fairly accurate first impression of what’s in store with Peaking Lights’ third album.
In their press release, the husband and wife duo cite astrological and nocturnal influences as well as the birth of their son, as their “guiding light muse”. But while that kind of talk might put some people off, Lucifer is beautiful in parts – skilfully interlacing floating electronic pulses with vocal harmonies and musical strands to create unstructured, hypnotic tracks.
The album starts with Moonrise, an instrumental evoking the chimes of a clock, concluding at dawn with the tired but epic sounding Morning Star. Cynicism suspended, Lucifer is a dreamy, heavy, relaxing listen.
