I AM writing in response to the Park Life article featured in York Press on Saturday, September 30, in particular the views of Emma Ireland.
To knock York City Knights for all their hard work when rugby league is now played in over 125 schools is just beyond belief.
How can introducing youngsters to the game in school be detrimental to the amateur clubs? I know a lot of youngsters who come to the games are playing for their amateur teams.
I would ask if Emma has ever spoken to the Knights regarding her concerns or has been to any of the festivals or offered her services to help out with coaching.
I completely understand that Emma is a volunteer and applaud her for giving up her time but rather than shout off what she thinks should be happening, why not have a constructive meeting with the Knights and come up with ideas of a way forward. For example, joining up coaching resources and going into the schools in the lead-up to this tournament as a partnership.
One of my friend's sons was involved in a tournament and received a flier giving contact details for all three amateur clubs (Heworth, York Acorn and New Earswick) in York.
