HUGH MACDOUGALL, a member of The Press's sportsdesk team for 29 years, has hung up his pen.
Hugh, 65 next Tuesday, retired yesterday, after 47 years as a journalist.
Born in Dundee and a proud Scot, Hugh's career began as a junior reporter at the Isle of Ely and Wisbech Advertiser back in 1959.
He also worked at the Peterborough Evening Telegraph, Edinburgh Evening News and Darlington Evening Despatch, before joining The Press, then the Yorkshire Evening Press, in 1977.
Latterly, he became well known as The Press's snooker correspondent covering the UK Championship at York's Barbican Centre.
Press sports editor Martin Jarred said: "Hugh has seen massive changes in the newspaper industry over the years but always adapted to new styles and systems, often quicker than bright young whizz-kids.
"He was a pleasure to work with and we wish him a long and happy retirement."
