I WAS delighted to see coverage of the upcoming launch of satellite tracking equipment on Coastliner buses running through York (Yorkshire Coastliner go high-tech, The Press, October 13). I agree with Mr Richardson that this is an excellent innovation (High-tech info, October 18). However, the article may have given readers the wrong impression.
The system, which is not yet fully operational, is being developed by all the local authorities in the region, including City of York Council. Passengers will be able to get up-to-the-minute information about most services operating throughout Yorkshire via the Web, WAP or SMS.
In York, the system will provide information for First, EYMS and Arriva services, in addition to those operated by Coastliner. The project should be launched at the end of the year.
