SO the fate of the Shipton Street school site has been settled (Homes plan for old school site, The Press, October 12). I am reminded of my schooldays there from 1930 to 1934. It was called a girls' "higher grade school".
I do think we had a very good education, which included French and, later, shorthand and typing - as well as some cooking.
The headmistress, Dr Cockcroft, was truly formidable and constantly swept from classroom to classroom in her robe and with stern face.
We had to be very good girls indeed and always look very presentable.
If any old girls read this, get in touch please.
