DEPLETED York Under-11 Schoolboys may have been short of manpower in their friendly with Hull, but they found enough in the tank to draw 3-3.
Several players were tied up in the Cade Trophy finals meaning a repeat of the last result between the two teams - a 2-0 York win - was looking unlikely and some incessant Hull pressure early on put the Humbersiders in front.
York gradually eased their way back and man-of-the-match Dan Gallagher fired home the equaliser to make it 1-1 at half time.
Hosts Hull went back in front and extended their lead soon after the break but skipper Connor Ryan reduced the deficit from close range and sub Ryan Williamson launched a striking 30-yard effort which sailed over the Hull keeper's head to level the game.
Captain Jacob McCormick fired in both goals as York U13s kick-started their season with an impressive 2-0 defeat of Leeds.
Underdogs York started with six debutants but played above their standing against a strong side that had beaten Bradford and Barnsley in previous weeks.
Man of the match George Foster-Vigors - one of the new faces - stamped out any attacks on the York goal with goalkeeper George Catling also in outstanding form.
McCormick netted early in each half to give York the momentum they needed and the win was well-deserved.
