A PHOTOGRAPHY competition has been launched as part of the York 800 celebrations to recognise York as a “city that cares.”
The Joseph Rowntree Foundation wants people to take images in and around the city that show its caring side – whether that means caring for the community or the local environment, or as part of a job.
A spokesman said 2012 marked 800 years since the city was granted a Royal Charter by King John, allowing it to take charge of its own affairs.
“The photographic competition will be used to show that York is a city that ‘cares’, and which has used its freedom to create a place where citizens thrive because of the kindness and support of others,” he said.
People can enter by going to www.jrf.org.uk/york-800, uploading their picture and telling the foundation a little bit more about its connection to York.
The competition is open to photographers of all ages and abilities.
