A YORK anti-fraud squad is warning sports fans against conmen who are offering fake Olympic medals for sale over the internet before the Games begin.
The national trading standards eCrime Team says the “medals” cost up to £29 through an internet auction site and bear unauthorised copies of the Olympic five rings logo.
Colin Rumford, from the eCrime Team, said: “This is a cynical attempt to exploit consumers and defraud legitimate business. While no one is likely to be fooled into believing they are the genuine item the price being charged represents ridiculously poor value for money.”
