THE Archbishop of York is set to be in the audience of tonight’s performance of the Plays – and is inviting people to join him in saying night prayers straight afterwards.
Dr John Sentamu, who is a patron of the Plays, will be leading Compline night prayer at nearby St Olave’s Church in Marygate at about 11.15pm, when prayers will be said for those taking part and those who attend the Plays.
He hopes the service will help give cast, crew, volunteers and members of the audience a space to reflect on the Plays’ message.
Dr Sentamu said he was looking forward to seeing the Plays. “It’s fantastic that we can hold the biggest outdoor theatrical production in the country in York and involve the whole community in telling the story of the battle between good and evil told in the Bible. I have heard this year’s production is wonderful.”
