A YOUNG master of maths from York is Cambridge-bound as he follows in a family tradition.
Thomas Rychlik, 18, from Acomb , will begin a three-year mathematics course at one of the world’s leading colleges for the subject in October after scooping seven A-levels at All Saints RC School .
They included four A* grades in mathematics, further mathematics, physics and design and technology, as well as an A in history. The physics result, following a tough but successful entrance exam known as a “STEP Test”, has secured Thomas one of only 40 available places at Trinity College Cambridge.
“I actually hated maths as a small child, so it must be due to the family background – both my grandparents and my uncle studied mathematics at Cambridge,” he said.
“When I went to see it, I absolutely fell in love with Cambridge. It’s such a beautiful place and you can feel the history from all the people who have been there. It’s really quite something.
“All Saints is a wonderful school and has been very good in providing extra support through a maths tutor, so everybody there has been fantastic to me.”
