THE streets of York will come alive to the jingling bells, brightly coloured costumes and music of 200 Morris dancers this weekend.

The 25th York Festival of Traditional Dance is being organised by local team Ebor Morris in co-operation with City of York Council as part of the YORK800 celebrations.

Teams coming from as far away as Brighton will encompass all traditions, from the loud, brash face-painted Border dancers through to the white dressed Cotswold to the Step Clog and Appalachian dancers.

The event starts at 10.30am on Saturday with a procession from the Guildhall, led by the unique Britannia Coco-nut dancers from Bacup.

Teams will dance throughout the day, showcasing in front of the civic party in St Sampson’s Square at 2.30pm. For more information, go to ebormorris.org.uk
