A COUPLE who met at a party more than 60 years ago are celebrating their diamond wedding.
Former York Rugby League player Edgar Wallace Dawson and Teresa Gallagher met at a party in the early 1950s and have been together since then.
The couple, from Huntington , who have two children Paul and Susan, are toasting the occasion with a party at the Cueball Club in James Street.
Now 80, Edgar, a retired joiner, played 13 seasons for York in the 1940s and 1950s, and represented Great Britain in the mid 1950s against Australia. Teresa, now 82, worked at Rowntrees.
Son Paul, also of Huntington, said: “They weren’t going out long before they married at St Aelred’s Church in Fifth Avenue.”
The couple also have four grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
Susan said: “What a fantastic achievement to have reached 60 years of marriage together. There have been so many memorable and treasured times through the years. Their loving and caring ways have always shone through, and given one and all the support and love they share.”
