More than 70 volunteers have joined forces in the search for a North Yorkshire woman who has now been missing for a week.
Barbara Colling, 68, of Helmsley,was last seen seen walking along the B1257 near Abbotts Hag at about 9.30am last Monday. Concerns are mounting for Mrs Colling, who has dementia, as her disappearance is out of character.
Over 70 people, including members of the local community, Park Rangers from the North York Moors National Park and the members of the search and rescue teams who have been involved in the search since Barbara was reported missing, joined forces in the effort to locate her.
The teams undertook searches in the Newgate woods, Buxton woods, Birch woods and Laskill House areas near the town She is described as white, 5ft 2in tall, with a medium build and medium length blonde hair.
When she was last seen she wearing a navy blue jacket, blue trousers, a black woollen hat with ear flaps and black boots. It is thought Barbara was carrying a black rucksack.
Barbara’s daughter, Lizzy Firmin speaking on behalf of Mrs Collings' family said: “We would like to express my thanks to all those who are giving their own time in an effort to find our mum. The family all very much appreciate the support the local community have already given us.”
Insp Andy Everitt, of Malton Safer Neighbourhood Team, said: “This is a tremendous response from the local community, which is a very welcome boost to the extensive efforts we have already made. My thanks go to all who have given their time.
“I am asking people to remain vigilant when they are out and about. If they see something which looks out of place, such as discarded items, they should contact the police straight away.
“I am also reminding residents to check sheds and outbuildings in case Barbara has taken refuge in them.”
Anyone who can help with to locate Barbara Colling is urged to contact North Yorkshire Police on 101 immediately.
