AN open day is to be held to showcase the facilities at Scarborough's new £6.5m youth and community complex, named The Street.
The centre, in William Street, will burst into life on Saturday, February 16, with a day of circus, music and dance activities.
There will also be a chance to take a look around the centre and see what the Street offers, which includes sports facilities, meeting places, offices and retail units.
Entertainment on the day will include performances from youth dance groups and youth bands and musicians. There will be an opportunity to try out the climbing facilities as well as have a go at graffiti, jewellery-making, street dance, UV banners, willow sculpture, and puppet-making.
There will also be food, exhibitions and stalls. The day begins at noon, with most activities starting at 2pm.
The Street will offer opportunities for education and training, exercise, advice and support and a safe, state-of-the art location to meet and socialise. Enterprise manager Sarah Fenwick said: “We are really excited that The Street is now complete and we are seeing the first tenants moving in and preparing to welcome the public.”
“This is the culmination of many years of hard work, especially by a very dedicated group of young people, to see a fantastic community venue for the people of Scarborough become a reality.
"Once fully open and operational, The Street will provide excellent community facilities, job and training opportunities and a great resource for the local population."
The open day will be followed by an official civic opening on March 22.
