A NEW vicar is to be appointed for six parishes in Ryedale. The Rev Martin Allwood will replace Rev Beryl Bowes, who retired in 2012.
Mr Allwood will be instituted by the Archbishop of York, Dr John Sentamu, on Wednesday at All Saints’ Church, Hovingham – one of the parishes that he will take over.
The others are St Helen’s Amotherby, All Saints’ Appleton-le-Street, St Michael’s Barton-le-Street, Coneysthorpe Chapel, St George the Martyr Scackleton, and All Saints’, Slingsby.
Born in Swaziland in 1971, Mr Allwood moved to South Africa as a child and went on to take a degree in Agricultural Horticulture, before moving to the UK in 2001.
He is married to Colleen, and when he is not working with the church he enjoys walking his two dogs and paddling in his kayak.
