ELECTRICITY company Northern Powergrid has released pictures of examples of damage that metal thieves can cause to the electricity network.
The firm released the pictures to highlight the problems caused and to raise awareness of the danger that can be posed when live cables are left dangling close to roads and footpaths.
A total of 45 thefts have happened have occurred in Yorkshire and North Lincolnshire already since the start of 2014.
Mick Hickling, from Northern Powergrid, said: “The consequences of an adult or child innocently coming into contact with these damaged cables before our staff are alerted do not bear thinking about.”
The company asks people, especially in rural areas, to report any suspicious activity near electric cables to them on 0800 375 675, or directly to police.
