FIRE crews were called to a dramatic van fire on a North Yorkshire road this morning.
The fire happened at about 9.45am on the A169 between Malton and Pickering and involved a large white Transit-style van.
Local taxi driver Janice Metcalf was driving past the van, which had parked in a lay-by before the fire started, and her husband took this photo of the incident.
She said: "The front end was on fire and it started to explode.
"I have never seen something so badly on fire. It just shows how how bad a fire can be on a van and what damage can be done."
A spokeswoman for the fire service said the vehicle suffered 75 per cent fire damage and 100 per cent smoke damage, and the cause was believed to be an electrical fault in the fuse box or the engine compartment.
Nobody was injured in the fire.
