A CYCLING app for riders willing to tackle Yorkshire's famous Tour de France routes has been nominated for a prestigious award.
The Cycle Yorkshire – Ride the Routes programme is on the shortlist for the Digital Community Pioneer of the year category at 2014's Digital Entrepreneur Awards.
The app gives information to riders who want to follow in the tracks of their cycling heroes on both Yorkshire stages of Le Tour and uses scenic maps of the routes, as well as videos of York-based semi-pro cyclist, Jamie Sharp, tackling some of the most challenging sections.
Cllr David Levene, cabinet member for Transport, said: “It is excellent that the region’s partnership work has been recognised in this way.
"The app, although based around the Tour de France routes, gives great advice for cycling on all sorts of rural roads, as well as including guidance on tackling some of the more challenging sections of the Tour routes in Yorkshire.”
The free app, which was launched in March this year and has been downloaded more than 4,000 times, is backed by Welcome to Yorkshire.
The app can be downloaded for Apple and android devices at the following link - bit.ly/cycleyorkshire - or by searching the Google or Apple stores for Cycle Yorkshire.
