A NORTH Yorkshire man has completed his training to become a Royal Navy sailor.
Jake McCoid, 22, was a shop assistant and former pupil of George Pinder Community Sports College, in Scarborough, but is now a trainee air engineering technician.
Jake took part in a ten-week intensive training course at HMS Raleigh in Cornwall and will now head to HMS Sultan in Gosport.
He said: “I joined the Royal Navy to travel the world, for the career prospects and to gain key skills and qualifications. I also wanted to make friends for life and make my family proud.
“I’ve thoroughly enjoyed my training at HMS Raleigh and over the last ten weeks have learned a lot.
“I feel extremely proud to be able to pass out and join the Fleet. I’m now looking forward to working hard through the next stage of my training and getting on with my career in the Royal Navy.”
Jake will now learn how to carry out scheduled maintenance work as well as pre and post-flight servicing and inspections for the Fleet Air Arm’s helicopters.
