NHS Scarborough and Ryedale Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) is asking local residents to go to their pharmacy for health advice and treatment for minor symptoms.
The reminder coincides with the launch of the national campaign Feeling Under The Weather? which promotes the benefits of acting fast to prevent symptoms from getting worse and resulting in the need for more significant care or treatment.
The hope is that by people taking a more proactive approach to looking after their own health, they can help reduce pressure on NHS services during the busy winter period.
Dr Omnia Hefni, local GP and CCG governing body member, said: “Demand for NHS services soars during the winter months as people are more prone to falling ill or having accidents in icy conditions.
“This year we are particularly encouraging people aged over 60, who may be more prone to illness, to seek health advice from their local pharmacy if they start to feel under the weather. Acting early can help ensure appropriate treatment to help get you back to good health as quickly as possible.”
