A man died and three people were injured when a car overturned on the A64 between York and Malton just after midnight.
The driver of a black Mercedes car died when it collided with the barrier in the central reservation at Whitwell-on-the-Hill. The 26-year-old from Malton was driving in the outside lane heading towards Malton at the time.
Three passengers were taken to York Hospital: an 18-year-old Malton woman who had neck and spinal injuries, a 22-year-old Malton woman who had serious leg injuries and a 29-year-Knaresborough man who suffered cuts and bruises.
The road was closed for seven hours while paramedics tended to the four travellers and North Yorkshire Police’s major collision investigation team examined the scene and cleared the road.
The team is appealing for anyone who saw the crash, or the Mercedes before the crash or could help with their inquiries to contact them.
