A DRIVER has been killed after crashing into a heavy goods vehicle parked in a lay-by.
He was at the wheel of a dark blue Mercedes A-class car which collided with the rear of a green and white HGV on the north-bound carriageway of the A168 near Asenby between Dishforth and Thirsk at about 10.30am..
The car driver, a man aged in his 60s, was pronounced dead at the scene. North Yorkshire Police have not released his name.
The lorry driver, a man aged in his 30s, was uninjured.
Both lanes of the north-bound carriageway of the A168 were closed for a few hours while police investigated the collision scene and to allow the vehicles to be recovered. An alternative route was set up for traffic heading north towards Teesside during the closure.
