PROM-GOERS are expected to flock to a North Yorkshire stately home in their thousands this summer to celebrate the very best of British music.

Castle Howard’s Proms Spectacular is returning for the tenth year, and tickets for the event on Saturday, August 21, are already being snapped up.

Music-lovers are invited to bring along a picnic to enjoy on the North Lawns while being entertained by the English National Orchestra.

Organisers have promised another “breathtaking finale”, with thousands of fireworks to light up the sky.

The concert, which is being supported by The Press, will also feature soloists, who will perform popular arias and all the favourites associated with The Last Night Of The Proms.

Event manager Rachel Deighton said: “The Proms is always a highlight on the Yorkshire events calendar and this year is no exception and promises to be the ‘must have’ ticket of the summer. “Sit back, relax and picnic on the North Lawns as the English National Orchestra takes to the stage to perform wonderful classics such as Cavaleria Rusticana, the Adagio from Spartacus, O Mio Babbino Caro, the theme from Harry Potter, 1812 and many more.

“As darkness falls the best of British will resound with Elgar’s Nimrod and Walton’s Crown Imperial, as stunning special effects light up the sky.

“Flags and singing voices will then need to be at the ready as the orchestra launches into a huge finale section of traditional Proms favourites, including Rule Britannia, Jerusalem, the 1812 Overture and Elgar’s Pomp & Circumstance.”

“Early bird” tickets, costing £26 for adults and £15 for children, are available until June 1 by phoning 0845 296 0000 or logging on to castlehowardlive.com After June 1, advance tickets will cost £30 for adults, with the price going up to £32 on the night.
