THE historic 6201 Princess Elizabeth locomotive arrived in York to kickstart the summer holiday steam season.
The 1930s locomotive is one of the Princess Royal Class locomotives, nicknamed “the Lizzies” in honour of the then Princess Elizabeth, who is now the Queen.
It is the only preserved prototype Stainer Pacific and will run as part of the Scarborough Flyer service, which will take steam rail enthusiasts to Scarborough each Friday until September 10.
Heritage rail operator The Railway Touring Company said the service will be carried out by a pool of steam locomotives, including the 6233 Duchess of Sutherland.
