THE Independent Police Complaints Commission has clarified the outcome of a misconduct hearing involving the deputy chief constable of North Yorkshire, Adam Briggs.
The Press reported earlier this month that Mr Briggs was “relieved” to have been cleared of helping a relative get round part of the force’s recruitment process to become a PC.
The commission said yesterday there had been some confusion, but it was now in a position to clarify what happened.
The misconduct meeting concluded Mr Briggs had breached the code of conduct on two counts.
These were that he failed to challenge and report improper conduct, and that he acted in a manner likely to bring discredit upon and undermine public confidence in the police service.
It said the misconduct meeting found Mr Briggs had not breached the code of conduct in relation to honesty and integrity, abuse of powers and authority, unfair and unlawful discrimination and failure to abide by force policy and/or giving unlawful instructions.
