A 100-year-old rope-making business will continue under new ownership.
George Woodall & Sons of Malton has been acquired by Winston Kobylka, a lecturer with a background in historic buildings and technical infrastructure projects including the development of London’s Docklands, and trades like rope-making.
Mr Kobylka, who has lived in Malton for four years, said: “I was drawn to the business by its situation in an historic building and by its potential.
“It has a very broad and unusual product range and a wide variety of customers.
“I’m looking forward to developing all aspects of the business whilst retaining its unique character in a very special market town.”
John Woodall, the great-grandson of the founder, and his wife, Hilary, said they were anxious the business should keep going following their retirement.
Mr Woodall said: “With the help of the Fitzwilliam Estate we launched a nationwide search to find a successor only to find the new buyer almost on our doorstep.
We’re delighted that Mr Kobylka will carry the business on and develop it.”
