North Yorkshire Police are warning New Year revellers their celebrations could cost them their job if they drink and then drive home.

Officers will be out on force in the run-up to 2011 across the county to catch drink-drivers. They urge party goers to leave their car at home.

Inspector Dave Brown, head of strategic roads policing, said: “Your licence is not the only thing you could lose if you flout the drink-drive laws. Your job, your livelihood and your home are all at stake if you lose your licence, not to mention your future employment prospects.

He was speaking after the annual Christmas drink-drive campaign led to Dagmar Chrenkova, 34, of Malton, losing her licence for 14 months at Scarborough Magistrates Court. She gave a positive breath test when police stopped her at about 4am on the A64 at Malton.
