EFFORTS are under way to reopen a Thirsk waste management depot which was hit by fire last week.
More than 60 firefighters battled the blaze at the Todd Waste Management site, at Thirsk Industrial Park.
A spokesman for F D Todd & Sons said yesterday the business had returned to working as normal, fully utilising its other operations in Malton and York.
He said Todd was working closely with the Environment Agency to re-open the site, begin the acceptance of new waste materials and remove the burned waste.
Operations manager Gerard Bannigan said: “We would like to thank all our customers and the local community for their patience whilst this serious matter has been brought under control. The events of the last week have been testing for all of our team who have worked tirelessly to ensure that the incident was properly managed.”
He said he wanted to continue reassuring the local community that the type of recycling material involved in the fire was non- hazardous and non-toxic.
