AN inspirational woman who has dedicated her time to motivating the elderly community to get out and about could be recognised by a regional award.
Donnette England, from Deansfield Court, Norton, has been shortlisted from hundreds of entries for the outstanding individual category in the National Housing Federation’s What We Are Proud of Awards.
Summer fairs, bingo events, raffles and a knitting club have all been organised by Mrs England since she moved into the extra care home with her disabled husband, Reg, in 2009. She also took on the setting-up and management of the new community shop in the development.
Samantha Jones, Deansfield Court scheme manager at Yorkshire Housing, nominated her for the recognition.
She said: “Donnette has achieved outstanding results in her work. She is a real asset to the community.”
Mrs England said she was shocked to discover she had been nominated for the award.
She said: “I really enjoy my time at Deansfield Court. I love it and I can’t wait to go to the awards.”
The awards ceremony will take place on June 18 at the Royal York Hotel, York, with finalists from across Yorkshire and Humber set to attend.
