FIVE top police officers are vying for the role of North Yorkshire Police’s Deputy Chief Constable.

The role became vacant after the former deputy, Adam Briggs, announced his retirement in February.

Interviews for the five applicants, who have not been named, will take place next month.

North Yorkshire Police Authority said it was seeking someone with “excellent strategic perspective” and “a personal commitment to making change a reality”.

Mr Briggs retired from the force after a dispute with the police authority and Independent Police Complaints Commission into how he spent £10,000 on “executive coaching”.
