EIGHT fire crews with a water bowser, aerial ladder and support staff fought a major blaze at a North Yorkshire woodyard for hours this afternoon.
Forty tonnes of timber at the woodyard on Brompton Ings Lane between the A64 and A170 near Scarborough ignited this afternoon. A tractor was also caught in the fire, but firefighters managed to stop the flames spreading to more machinery.
Crews from Sherburn near Malton, Snainton, Filey, Scarborough, Pickering, Kirbymoorside, Malton and Huntington dealt with the blaze, and were supported by a water bowser from Tadcaster and an aerial ladder from Scarborough, as well as other units.
Crews are still at the scene dampening down.
